December 2, 2015

Sharon Maack-Connolly (Elim Christian School) co –presented with Randee Kushner (Tobii Dynavox) at the 33rd Annual Closing the Gap Conference in Bloomington, MN on October 16. Closing the Gap is an international conference that focuses on assistive technology in special education, rehabilitation and everyday living.

Students with disabilities often lack world knowledge, which is such a large component of success in school and life. There are limited current events curricula available to students with special needs that provide academically engaging and age-appropriate content, presented in a fully accessible way. Boardmaker Current Events (BCE) is the solution to these problems.

Elim Christian School piloted Boardmaker Current Events in January thru August 2015. Sharon Maack-Connolly, Assistive Technology Coordinator at Elim Christian School led the Pilot.

The presentation provided participants with a review of the implementation process and positive outcomes from the pilot, as well as demonstrated the unique features of BCE. This was the fourth presentation that Sharon has done at CTG.
