ACTS Programs Meets Jerry’s Needs

September 2, 2013

It’s incredibly rewarding when an Elim program can provide additional hope and help to a long-standing member of our family. This is Jerry Kopicki’s story. Jerry has autism but graduated from Elim Christian School before Elim’s specialized autism programs were founded.

When Jerry started in Elim’s Adult Services program, he struggled to understand the tasks he needed to complete. This led to anxiety, and eventually Jerry’s family made the difficult decision to try another facility. But when Elim introduced its adult autism program in 2008, Jerry’s family was thrilled that he could return home to Elim!

Now, Jerry thrives from the structure of Elim’s ACTS program. He loves being at Elim and using his gifts and talents to make a difference in the world! A productive member of Elim’s workshop team, Jerry is benefitting from a program tailored specifically for adults with autism and an environment designed to accommodate the special sensory needs of individuals with autism.

Bob Foster, Vocational Coordinator for the ACTS program, believes ACTS’ structured environment has not only led to productivity, but also happiness for Jerry. “Each day, the ACTS staff shows Jerry a picture schedule so that he can see what’s in store for him that day. It’s obvious that Jerry is comfortable. He likes predictability and stability in his environment, and the ACTS program strives to provide that for him.”
