At its heart, the story of Elim is a story of community. From our early roots as a school in a church basement to becoming a trusted organization serving students and adults with disabilities, our success story stems from the generosity and commitment of supporters like you.
Today, we want to introduce you to Renee and share how she first connected with Elim, and why she became a dedicated supporter of our HOPE Packs program.
What motivated you to support Elim?
My husband and I were motivated to give after learning about the HOPE Packs during a service at our church. These school-supply kits are assembled by adults at Elim and distributed to children who may not have what they need for the first day of school. My husband especially felt moved to support this initiative, and I agreed without hesitation.
Was there ever a moment in your life that connected you to Elim’s mission, or disability services in general?
Yes—my uncle attended Elim as a child, so my family has had a long-standing connection to the organization. Knowing that someone I love was supported by Elim gives the mission a deeper personal meaning for me.
What about Elim’s mission resonates with you personally?
Elim’s mission resonates deeply because it reflects the heart of the Gospel—empowering individuals to use their God-given gifts and purpose. This became even more evident when I had the chance to accompany several Elim adults to deliver the Hope Packs to the DCFS office. They were so proud of their work, and each shared what part they played in assembling the kits. It was powerful to see them serving others with such joy and purpose.
How do you think your donation makes a difference at Elim?
Our donation creates positive change by supporting adults with disabilities in meaningful, dignified work while also blessing children who may be facing difficult circumstances. As someone who was a single teen parent, I understand how impactful even small acts of help can be. Support like this reminds families that they’re not alone. Now that I’m able to give back, I feel grateful to help provide that same encouragement to others.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
We’re thankful for the opportunity to support Elim—not only because of my family’s connection, but because we’ve seen firsthand the purpose and pride the adults experience through their work. It’s a blessing to support a ministry that uplifts their gifts while also meeting the practical needs of under-resourced children and families.
