Pursuing Possibilities in the Community

October 31, 2018

George is thriving at Elim, pursuing every possibility and opportunity that he can.

He loves serving others and participating in community events and activities. He is always one of the first to volunteer for any new project that comes along.

George packs his days full of educational, volunteer, and vocational opportunities through Elim’s Adult Services program. When George lost his much-loved job at a local fast food restaurant due to restructuring, he was devastated. A hard-worker with a servant’s heart, George thrives through meaningful work and community involvement. Elim’s staff knew it was essential to his well-being to find a new position where he could use his gifts.

George found new employment through SET Environmental, who desired to partner in Elim’s vision to see people with disabilities thriving in their community. Every other Saturday, George joins a team of Elim participants to wash trucks for SET Environmental, a specialty waste company that provides disaster relief services. Through this position, George proudly makes a positive impact on the world around him while earning a regular paycheck. He loves the position so much, in fact, that he asks Elim’s project manager “When can I go back?” every day.

Because George has such diverse gifts, he also recently accepted a janitorial position where he provides maintenance for Elim’s offices. Right from the start, George threw himself into the position and delighted staff with his excellent work and attention to detail.

George also shines through his participation in HOPE Packs distribution events and Elim’s Worship Team. An Elim staff member recently shared, “George is a vital part of Elim’s worship team. He’s an excellent ambassador for Elim because he can talk with anyone and he’s an all-around great person.”

A member of Elim’s family since 1973, George has no desire to slow down. Because of your support, there are still possibilities to pursue and new skills to be learned.
