Bonding Through Remote Learning

April 14, 2021

Remote learning has posed a challenge for many students and families. However, Franco and his family choose to see the benefits of it.

Franco has adapted well to learning remotely and has grown tremendously. A goal he has been working on is his communication – learning to use more words and fewer visuals. This task isn’t easy to do virtually, so he has been using a token board. Every time he gets a word right or completes a task, he gets praised and gets to pick a token to put on his board! This helps him to stay on track and helps him reach more goals.

Not only that, but Franco’s mom appreciates the time at home, which has allowed her to collaborate with his teachers more and has also allowed Franco and his two younger brothers to have more bonding time.

While spending more time together, Franco’s brothers have started to develop more empathy. They are realizing that their brother has individual needs and learns differently from them. They have started joining Franco’s Zoom sessions with him and are helping prompt him to participate in his schoolwork! Franco’s mom is very happy they can use the time to connect and take part together. She loves seeing Franco succeed each day.

Franco has benefitted from how collaborative the Pathways program has been and is thriving with all the support Elim has to offer! Because of you, this opportunity is made possible for not only Franco, but his family as well.
