Donors who give to Elim are a critical part of our story. Without the support of our community, we would not be able to offer all the opportunities and programming we do for our students and adults.
We want to introduce you to Michelle, a longtime Elim donor whose brother, Brian, has been attending our Adult Services program for many years. We recently asked her a few questions about why she supports Elim and how, by creating their foundation, Brian’s EXTRAordinary Foundation, they give back to Elim.
What motivated you to give Elim an initial gift?
My brother Brian has been a client of Elim’s for many, many years. I have seen throughout those years how Brian has benefited from being there and involved in the day-to-day activities with the resources that they have. I feel that it is important that our adult community has the same resources as our younger ones.
Was there ever a moment in your life that connected you to Elim’s mission, or disability services in general?
I love that Elim is faith-based and passionate about helping others who are so deserving. I have seen firsthand how hard it is when you are not getting the help that you need, and Elim is a place that makes families feel welcome and at home.
What about our mission, equipping students and adults with disabilities to reach their God-given potential, resonates with you personally?
Adults with special needs, in my opinion, seem to get left behind at a certain point. When they are younger and all through school age, the resources available are amazing. After a certain point, the resources get less and less. With Elim, they work hard to give our adult community the opportunities that they need. The passion they have and their giving nature really set the standard.
How do you feel your donation helps to create positive changes in the world?
Brian’s EXTRAordinary Foundation has been working for the last several years to help others understand how important it is to raise awareness and to make it a priority that, through donations, we create as many opportunities as we can. Being able to help Elim and, in turn, helping our students and adults has been amazing. They are learning how to navigate life, whether it be through classes, plays, work opportunities with job coaches, cooking, faith, and friendship.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about your connection to our cause?
Brian has been involved with other organizations, and Elim has been, by far, the best fit for him. Our foundation will continue to spread its mission and do the best we can, in any way we can, and as long as we can.
Because of donors just like you and Michelle, our students and adults receive the tools and resources that they need to thrive. Can you give today and equip over 400 students and adults at Elim to pursue their God-given potential?
