A Partnership That is Paying Off

July 23, 2018

Elim partners with schools all over the world to enhance their ability to serve each of their students. One of these partners is Salem Christian School in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.

This past school year Salem’s principal, Hector Quintana, sought a way for teachers to better understand their students’ levels of academic achievement and learn how to adjust their instructional approach based on student needs and opportunities for development. Knowing Elim’s expertise in guiding school-wide initiatives for meeting the needs of all learners, Quintana connected with Elim to develop a plan.

Colleen Steele, Educational Consultant at Elim, recommended a school-wide system for collecting data and assisted the school in developing a plan for implementation and staff development. Through professional development workshops and ongoing consultation with Elim, Salem’s teachers learned how to use data to inform their instructional decisions. Because of this partnership, Kate Pilman, Salem’s 2nd and 3rd grade teacher, improved the quality of her instruction and positively impacted student learning in her classroom:
“I’m able to understand where my students specifically need growth, where they are at compared to the class, and their progress throughout the year. I’m able to group my students to target their specific needs more effectively.”

Because of Elim’s partnership, Salem’s teaching staff is better equipped to educate all students. Kate says, “My colleagues and I have been able to collaborate more effectively and help our students close the learning gaps that have been identified, producing greater results from our teaching.”

“I have gained knowledge, tools, and resources that I did not have before Elim. However, my students have gained the most through Elim’s investment in me.”
