Kim’s Dream is Coming True!Oct 06, 2009
Many search their entire lives for their “dream job.” For Kim Meekma, one adult at Elim, that dream has come true. Each Tuesday, Kim travels to the Chicago Ridge Animal Welfare League where she walks dogs and shows pets to people interested in adopting them. As part of her responsibilities, Kim provides information on the animals, interviews potential adopters about their situation, and cares for the animals currently residing at the League. She’s quickly learned the requirements of adoption and can even easily navigate her way around the complicated facilities. Kim isn’t the only one thrilled with her position! The animals also show an amazing affinity for her. Rene Bamonti, Kim’s job coach explains, “Kim is amazing at this job! She has such a gentle touch. The animals are never afraid of her – they welcome her. Mothers allow her to handle and feed their tiny baby kittens. She’s not only very good with the animals but she’s also great with the people who visit.” In the future, Kim hopes to not only continue as a volunteer but possibly join the staff someday. Rene thinks Kim would be a perfect candidate saying, “If Kim could work there all day as a paid staff member, she’d be happy as a clam. We check the job board each week and are hopeful that it will happen someday. She’s a tireless worker and an amazing fit for her position!” |
