ACE Out and About in the Community

May 13, 2008

The students in ACE have done a variety of activities in the community. Two of the younger classes went horseback riding at the Hansen Center in February. The students had a great time riding the horses! Thanks again to the Hansen Center.

In the past month Missy’s class had the chance to go to Southwest Chicago Christian Middle School a couple times. The students from ACE joined the students from the leadership class in recreational and group building activities. This is a wonderful way for our students to learn appropriate social skills by interacting with typical children of their own age. It is also a good opportunity for SCCS students to experience what it is like to relate to peers with autism and increase their understanding of individuals who are different from them in significant ways.

With the theme focusing on animals, Sara’s, Amanda’s, and Amy’s classrooms went to Cabela’s this past month for their community trips. Cabela’s is a large outdoor sports and recreational store filled with amazing displays, such as a large aquarium and a display with real animals that have been stuffed. The students had a wonderful time!
